Specification & Modifications

The TRF Sportscar was designed, manufactured and developed in house at LF Performance Products in Bentley Western Australia to demonstrate some of the company’s motor sport engineering capabilities. Terry Fielding (Design Engineer) and Kim Ledger wanted to create something akin to an early 914 or 908 Porsche racer which could be road registered to drive to and from events, also CAMS approved for local sports car, gymkhana, hill climb or sprint competition.

Apart from over 200 drawings for various components, LFP manufactured jigs, moulds and panels in case we wished to produce more.

The adjustable steering column and collapsible components are Subaru. The pedal box is an LFP fabricated floor mounted unit and the shifter mechanism (linked to rear) is operated from the right hand side tub. The front brakes are Nissan derived with 300ZX alloy callipers and discs.

The base chassis is aircraft style flush riveted alloy semi-monocoque or tub, providing some uniqueness together with extreme rigidity. The chassis twist test was almost 90% higher than the ADR requirement.

The mono and rollover protection provides either inertia reel belts for street use, or full five point harnesses for competition.

The square tubular steel fabricated front clip bolts to the mono in five positions and carries front mounted alloy radiator (plumbed through to the rear), battery, rack and pinion steering borrowed from Subaru, custom wish bone front suspension, adjustable Eibach coils over Spax shock assemblies, sway bar and fabricated chrome moly steel uprights.

Similarly, the rear engineered clip bolts to the chassis in four places, providing one structured component and support system for rollover protection, Subaru turbo engine and transaxle mounting, exhaust system, externally mounted (custom) intercooler, custom adjustable wishbone suspension system, again with coil over shocks and sway bar assembly.

The cockpit is accessed either side via flip up hatches, hinged toward the front.

The fibre glass covers/body sections hinge forward and rear respectively and with gas cylinder supports, providing easy and excellent access. Front and likewise the rear components and motor can be serviced easily.

The complete car weighs around 800kg (wet).
